A fridge that will not get or stay cold can allow food to spoil. If you’ve washed and vacuumed the coils behind or beneath the fridge and it still wo not maintain the ideal temperature, and correcting the temperature dial to a colder atmosphere yielded no improvement, you can have a faulty thermostat. You can replace a fridge thermostat in a couple of minutes with some simple hand tools, and the cost is minimal when compared to a support call to your technician or a brand new refrigerator.
Unplug your refrigerator from the wall outlet.
Locate the thermostat working with the operator’s manual to your fridge. For side refrigerator/freezers, the thermostat is frequently on the back of the unit, whereas for over/under units, the thermostat is far more likely to be under the fridge.
Remove the protective panel covering the thermostat by loosening the screws or releasing the retaining clips having a screwdriver. Set the cover aside.
Pull the two thermostat cable straps gently off of the spade or pin terminals using a couple of needle-nose pliers. Then pat the mounting screw or clip holding the thermostat in place, and slide it out of the evaporator tube.
Secure the new thermostat to the evaporator tube, then attach the two connecting wires to the terminals. Alter the panel cover and plug in the fridge. Fix the temperature dial within the fridge to check the operation of the new thermostat.
